My upbringing is very similar to the Hope Shines students so I very easily relate to what they go through on a daily basis and no one is able to do everything on their own. We all need each other.

Hope Shines Facility Manager

My connection with my child has made me more aware of the challenges she faces, as well as her resilience and determination to meet those challenges. I’m confident my financial and personal support are well placed. Investing in her potential and her future wellbeing is a decision I’m grateful to have made.

Meet Nesta

Fully Sponsored!

Nesta is a funny and enetrtaining boy born in 2005, who lives with his mother and 3 siblings (one of them is a student at Hope Shines as well, Keza) in a one room mud house with limited electricity but no clean water, in a village in the outskirts of the city, Kigali. Most recently, the family used to live in the city, but they had to move because they couldn’t afford it anymore. As a result it now takes an hour for the kids to go to school. The mother is now planning to be relocated to help with this because she sees the value in Hope Shines and what is offered to support her children. At home, they do have electricity, but no access to clean water.

Nesta’s mother often doesn’t get work due to her lack of education and when she isn’t able to find a job for some time, the family suffers and only eats once a day.

Nesta is now almost finished with primary school at Ayabarya Primary School where he likes to study Mathematics. He wants to become very successful in life so he will be able to help his mother! Nesta enjoys playing football (soccer)and at Hope Shines he likes to play and meet Musungus (white foreigners). Nesta has high expectations of his future, which is a future in politics. He wants to become the president of Rwanda, or at least a governor.
